Christie Wins in NJ

November 3, 2009

Fox News has projected Chris Christie the winner of the New Jersey gubernatorial race. John Corzine, the embattled Democratic governor made unpopular due to high property taxes and bad for business status ran a tight race with the former attorney general Christie. Christie was widely expected to lose because of the state’s normally stalwart blue status. This could be a bellwether for the 2010 elections in that independents, who voted for Obama big in 2008, swung back big time to Christie.

In other news: Bob McDonnell in Virginia won big in a Republican sweep of the state, picking up the Lt. Governor and Attorney General positions as well.

New York’s 23rd district is too close to call with Conservative Doug Hoffman running close behind Democrat Bill Owens. Less than 50% of the votes have been counted.

Republican McDonnell Wins

November 3, 2009

In a big turnaround from the 2008 election where Virginia went for Obama big, the Republicans swept the night. Governor, Lt. Governor and Attorney General all took almost 60% of the vote in a big night for the GOP.

The state had been trending purple in the most recent elections but tonight was a pure red showing. This could have an impact on 2010, but the real news will be from New Jersey and New York where Chris Christie battles incumbent Democrat John Corzine and in New York where Conservative Doug Hoffman takes on liberal democrat Bill Owens. If those two races go Republican and Conservative, it could mean a big 2010 for the Republicans and a major setback to president Obama’s plans.

NOTE: As of right now, Chris Christie is leading in New Jersey 55%-38%, but enough results aren’t in to make a prediction. More posts to come as results come in.

Election Day 2009!

November 3, 2009

Election day is here America. Americans will go to the polls in another display of what makes America, American. The free elections that have been held every years since our inception as a nation will continue today with thousands of local issues and a few key state races. In New York’s 23rd district, Conservative Doug Hoffman runs against Democrat Bill Owens. In New Jersey, incumbent Democrat governor John Corzine is battling for his life against Republican challenger Chris Christie and in Virginia, Republican Bob McDonnell is leading Democrat Creigh Deeds by 12% in recent polls.

The biggest race for the Republican party today could very easily be the race that has no Republican in the race. Doug Hoffman is battling for the heart and soul of the Grand Ole Party. Local Republican leaders picked Dede Scozzafava to run against Democrat Bill Owens. Scozzafava was endorsed by Acorn, the Working Families group and other liberal, progressive groups. She dropped out and endorsed… the Democrat.

This race is the most important because it will show if the Republicans in New York want a liberal/moderate democrat or someone that is actually true to the party platform of limited government and anti-abortion. Republicans don’t need to expand the tent or become Democrat lites to get elected. They need to stand on principle. Let’s see how the three major races work out tonight.
